Popcorn Removal Alternatives

At RA Rosati Drywall, we have several options to provide you, the homeowner with a smooth ceiling. Typically we will remove the texture by scraping it down, or sanding it with a vacuum sander. Next, we will apply plaster to the ceiling, it can take 3 or 4 coats of plaster to smooth it out. This is followed by sanding. Once the popcorn has been made smooth, it can be primed and painted.

An alternative to removing the popcorn texture is to laminate drywall over top of the popcorn ceiling. This is a great option if you have lathe and plaster ceilings. Lathe and plaster has a tendency to separate and fall over the years. Laminating this with drywall would prevent any unwanted accidents.
